Derby went ahead when Sammie Szmodics finished from Carlton Morris's assist in the 23rd minute. Lloyd Jones equalised for Charlton in the 61st minute, converting Karlan Grant's assist, and Tyreece Campbell completed the comeback with a goal in the 80th minute.
Derby had more of the ball, with 55% possession, and registered 15 shots to Charlton's 13, but both sides managed four shots on target. The expected-goals figures were almost identical, 1.07 for Charlton and 1.01 for Derby, and it was Campbell's late strike that proved decisive.
