Harriet Dart came from a set down to beat Peyton Stearns 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the US Open. Dart turned the match around with sharper returning, converting five break points to Stearns' three and saving eight of the eleven break points she faced.
Stearns took the opening set with the only break of it, moving ahead at 3-5 and serving it out. Dart hit back immediately in the second set after losing the first game, broke again at 5-3 to level the match, then took control in the decider: after Stearns cancelled out Dart's break at 2-2, Dart broke twice more at 3-2 and 5-2 to close out the win.
The stats show why Dart prevailed despite landing fewer first serves (57% to 65%). She won 49% of her second-serve points to Stearns' 33%, a decisive edge that helped her win nine service games and kept her ahead in the key moments.
