Crewe Alexandra edged Accrington Stanley 2-1 in the EFL Cup first round thanks to a late Luca Moore winner. Jack Lankester had given the hosts an early lead, but Farrend Rawson's second-half equaliser set up a tense finish before Moore struck five minutes from time.
Lankester put Crewe in front after seven minutes. Rawson, booked just before half-time, hauled Accrington level on 65 minutes, only for Moore to settle it in the 85th minute from Lewis Billington's assist. The game was decided by that late goal rather than any period of sustained control.
The stats underline how tight it was: both sides had 50% possession, Crewe edged the shot count 15-14 and each keeper faced three shots on target. The difference was that Crewe created three big chances and scored two of them, while Accrington created none.
