Martina Colmegna beat Genevieve Price 6-2, 6-3 in the WTA 125k event in Ljubljana, and the return game decided it. Colmegna made six breaks to Price's two and won 33 receiving points to 22.
The first set was broken open early: Colmegna broke to lead 1-0, was pegged back at 1-1, then broke again for 2-1 and once more at 4-1 to run away with it. The second set followed the same pattern - a break for 1-0, Price levelling at 2-2, but Colmegna broke back for 3-2 and again at 5-2, and after Price got one back at 5-3 she closed it out on the return at 6-3.
The serving numbers tell the story: Colmegna won 59% of her first-serve points against Price's 44%, and held five of her seven service games while Price held only two of eight. Price also saved just 4 of 10 break points and hit four double faults, all of them in the opening set.
