Comesaña controlled the opening two sets, breaking twice in each to take them 6-3 and 6-2. Cobolli broke in the fourth game of the third set to cut the deficit, opened the fourth with breaks in games one and three, and took it 6-4 despite dropping serve in game six. In the decider, Comesaña broke in game two for 2-0, Cobolli hit back in game three, and a decisive break in game nine put him 5-4 ahead before he closed out the set.
The numbers show how close it was: Comesaña won more points (149-139) and hit more aces (12-7), but Cobolli's serving under pressure was the difference. He saved all eight break points in the third set and converted five break points over the match.
