Club Tijuana beat Cruz Azul 2-1 in the Primera Division Apertura, with Gilberto Mora deciding the contest. They led, lost the advantage, then regained it early in the second half to claim the three points.
José Rivero opened the scoring in the 44th minute from Mora's assist, only for Nicolás Ibáñez to equalise a minute later. Mora then struck himself in the 54th minute, assisted by Jesús Vega, to put Tijuana back in front. The visitors pushed for an equaliser but Tijuana's defence held.
Mora's contribution stood out – an assist and the winning goal. Tijuana had just 42% possession and only three shots on target to Cruz Azul's five, yet their 1.40 expected goals bettered the visitors' 0.85 and their keeper made four saves to keep Cruz Azul out.
