Shnaider D. defeated Chwalińska M. 6-2, 7-6 in Cincinnati, using a strong first set and a decisive tie-break to advance. She was the steadier player on serve, saving three of five break points she faced and winning 69% of points behind her first serve.
In the first set, Shnaider broke at 2-0 and 3-1; Chwalińska answered each time, but Shnaider closed the set with another break at 6-2. The second set swung repeatedly: Chwalińska broke at 0-1 and 1-4, then Shnaider hit back at 2-4 and levelled at 4-4. Chwalińska then led 6-5 and served for the set, but Shnaider broke at 6-6 and won the tie-break.
Shnaider's numbers made the difference: she put 84% of first serves in and won 40 points on Chwalińska's first serve, while Chwalińska managed only 31% on Shnaider's first serve. Chwalińska saved 16 of 20 break points she faced, but Shnaider's sustained return pressure carried her through.
