Chelsea progressed to the next round with a 2-0 win over Luton Town in the EFL Cup. The tie was goalless at the break, but Chelsea's dominance told after the interval. Danny Welbeck opened the scoring in the 50th minute, and Hakeem Odofin sealed it late on.
Welbeck finished from Malo Gusto's assist to give Chelsea the lead just after the restart. Luton's Joseph Johnson was booked on 56 minutes, but it did little to stem the flow. Odofin added the second in the 79th minute to put the tie beyond doubt.
Chelsea dominated the contest from start to finish, holding 66% possession and firing 26 shots to Luton's seven. They created six big chances and put seven on target, leaving Luton's goalkeeper to make six saves. The margin of victory could easily have been wider.
