Marco Cecchinato defeated Juan Torres 6-4, 6-4 in Todi, with the decisive edge coming on first serve. The Italian converted four break points to three, and both sets were settled by a late break at 5-4.
The opener saw Torres break at 2-3, only for Cecchinato to level immediately at 3-3 and then break again at 6-4. In the second set Torres led twice, at 0-1 and 2-3, but Cecchinato answered at 1-1 and 4-4 before breaking once more at 6-4 to seal the match.
Serve numbers told the story: Cecchinato won 69% of points behind his first serve, while Torres, despite landing 83% of first serves, managed just 52%. Cecchinato also returned better, winning 48% of first-serve return points to Torres' 31%, and finished with a 59-52 edge in total points.
