The first set featured four breaks: Sakamoto went up at 2-1, Butvilas replied at 2-2, and after breaks at 3-5 and 4-5, Butvilas took the tiebreak. Sakamoto levelled by breaking at 5-3 in the second set, and the decider turned when Sakamoto broke at 3-2 only for Butvilas to respond at 3-3 before breaking again at 5-7.
The standout stat was break-point conversion: Butvilas turned three of five chances into breaks, including the decisive break at 5-7, while Sakamoto saved just two of five on his own serve. That margin, more than total points won, decided the match.
