The difference came on second-ball rallies: Burel won 11 of 12 second-serve return points and 91% of them across the match, while Brockmann took just 1 of 12 points behind her own second serve.
The opening set swung early, with breaks traded from 1-0 through 2-1, before Burel broke back for 3-3 and then took the set on the return in the tenth game at 4-6. The pattern repeated in the second: Brockmann broke for 1-0, Burel levelled at 1-1 and then broke again at 1-3 and 1-5, reeling off four games in a row.
Burel converted five break points to Brockmann's three and saved 5 of 8 against her, and she also won 29 service points to Brockmann's 18. Overall she took 56 of the 100 points played and 10 of the 15 games.
