Brouwer defeated Matsuda 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 at the ATP Challenger Istanbul II. He controlled the opener with his first serve, saved all four break points he faced, then turned the deciding set around after dropping an early break.
The first set was decided by a single break in game five, with Brouwer landing 86% of first serves. Matsuda responded by breaking three times to run away with the second set 6-1. In the decider, Matsuda broke for 2-1, but Brouwer broke straight back and added further breaks in the sixth and eighth games to close out 6-2.
The standout number was Brouwer's serving under pressure: he saved eight of the twelve break points he faced and landed 75% of first serves overall. Matsuda hit four aces and won more service points (49-43), yet Brouwer's breaks in games four, six and eight proved decisive.
