The first set saw four breaks of serve: Broom broke for 1-0, Samuel replied immediately at 1-1, Broom broke again at 3-2, then Samuel levelled at 4-4. Samuel edged the tiebreak. In the second set he broke at 0-1 and 1-4 to seal the match in straight sets.
Samuel won 77% of first-serve points and 53% on second serve, while Broom managed just 34% behind his second delivery. Samuel also struck four aces and dominated return games, winning 65% of second-serve return points.
