Brentford beat Birmingham City 6-1 in the EFL Cup second round after producing a clinical away display. The visitors led through Callum Wilson's early goal, saw Demarai Gray equalise for Birmingham, then moved clear with two goals before half-time.
Callum Wilson opened the scoring in the sixth minute from Yehor Yarmoliuk's assist, and Gray levelled with Seung-Ho Paik supplying the pass for Birmingham in the 28th. Aaron Hickey restored Brentford's lead seven minutes later, and Nathan Collins made it 3-1 in the 40th. The tie was settled after the hour: Mikkel Damsgaard, Igor Thiago and Nathan Collins all scored between the 70th and 77th minutes.
Brentford dominated the statistics, with 69% possession, 16 shots to Birmingham's eight and eight shots on target to two. Jaidon Anthony assisted the final three goals, setting up Damsgaard, Thiago and Collins, and Collins's brace made him the standout scorer of the night.
