Tom Gomes opened the scoring on 31 minutes, and Mounir El Hajjami made it 2-0 on 62. Dembo Gassama pulled one back for Villefranche on 73, and Mathieu Cachbach looked to have earned a point with his 90th-minute equaliser before Mendes struck the winner.
