Friend J. came from a set down to beat Bonzi B. 5-7, 7-6, 7-5 at the Vancouver, Canada Men Singles. The decisive edge came late: Friend levelled through a tiebreak and then took the only break of the decider in the 11th game.
Bonzi edged the opener 7-5, breaking in the 11th game. Friend answered by winning the second-set tiebreak, and the final set was settled by a single break in the 11th game – this time in Friend’s favour.
The serving stats favoured Bonzi throughout: 13 aces to two and 41 service points won to Friend’s 37. But Friend saved six of seven break points, won the tiebreak, and came through with the lone break of the decider.
