Daria Kasatkina rallied from a set down to defeat Mariam Bolkvadze 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-0 in Washington, turning a chaotic opening set into a third-set rout. The Russian converted 10 of 19 break points and saved 9 of 16, while Bolkvadze managed 7 breaks from 19 chances.
The first set saw eight breaks of serve, with Kasatkina jumping to 3-0 before Bolkvadze clawed back to lead 5-3. Kasatkina fought off two set points, but Bolkvadze won the tiebreak to take the lead. The second set was equally tight: Kasatkina fell behind 0-1, levelled immediately, then after trading breaks she broke for 5-3, lost her serve on the next game, but broke again at 6-4 to force a decider. In the third, Kasatkina completely overwhelmed Bolkvadze, breaking three times and dropping only eight points on her own delivery to seal the bagel.
The decisive factor was Kasatkina's resilience on serve in the final set: she saved all three break points she faced and won 17 of 25 first-serve points. Despite 15 double faults over the match, she dictated rallies and exposed Bolkvadze's 14 double faults, winning 59 return points in total.
