M. Ribecai defeated T. Berkieta 7-5, 6-4 at the ATP Challenger in Grodzisk Mazowiecki. Ribecai saved seven of nine break points he faced and delivered the decisive returns at the end of both sets.
In the opener, Ribecai saved all four break points he came up against and took the only break in game 12 for 7-5. The second set was a succession of breaks: Berkieta moved ahead 0-1 in game 1, Ribecai replied with breaks at 2-2 and 4-2, and after Berkieta pulled one back in game 9, Ribecai broke again in game 10 to seal the match.
Berkieta hit nine aces to Ribecai's three, yet Ribecai won the second-serve points 59% to 41% and held off pressure with 7/9 break points saved. That edge proved decisive in a contest decided by fine margins.
