Benevento were forced to settle for a point after Südtirol led for more than 20 minutes before Francesco Salvemini's stoppage-time equaliser made it 1-1 in Serie B. The home side dominated the contest but found themselves behind to Silvio Merkaj's 69th-minute strike.
Merkaj put Südtirol ahead with an assist from Aljoša Vasić, and the visitors looked set to take all three points. Salvemini struck in the 90th minute to snatch a share of the spoils, with no further goals in the closing moments.
The stats underlined how one-sided the match was: Benevento had 24 shots to Südtirol's nine and an expected-goals total of 2.24 against 0.56, yet needed a last-gasp goal to avoid defeat. Both sides had 50% possession, but it was Benevento who created the clearer chances, including three big chances overall and two missed.
