Barranco Cosano came through a tight three-set battle at the Prague Men Singles, beating Martin A. 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. His first serve was the key: he landed 64% of deliveries and saved six of the eleven break points he faced.
The first set turned on a late exchange of breaks, with Barranco moving ahead in game five, Martin levelling immediately, and Barranco breaking again in game nine. Martin took the second 7-5 thanks to a break in game twelve, after both players broke twice in the opening eight games. In the decider, Barranco broke in game one and again in game seven to lead 5-2, then closed it out despite Martin pulling one break back.
Neither player was dominant on serve — both won exactly ten service games — but Barranco's return made the difference. He converted six of nine break points and won 47 return points, while Martin broke five times from eleven chances.
