Frances Tiafoe beat Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3 6-4 at Cincinnati, converting three break points and losing serve just once. Even though Auger-Aliassime fired 13 aces to Tiafoe's two, he could not turn that edge into a set.
Tiafoe broke for 3-1 in the opening set and held on to take it 6-3. In the second, he moved ahead by breaking at 2-1 and again at 4-1, only for Auger-Aliassime to break straight back at 4-2; Tiafoe closed out the next two games to finish the match.
The standout number was Tiafoe's work on second serve: he won 22 of 35 points (63%) behind it, while Auger-Aliassime managed only 8 of 26 (31%). That edge, plus 27 return points won to 20, made up for Tiafoe's lower first-serve percentage (42% to 58%).
