Novak Djokovic outlasted Felix Auger-Aliassime in a five-set thriller at Wimbledon, prevailing 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-4). The Serbian's superior composure in tiebreaks and his ability to convert clutch break points proved decisive in a match where Auger-Aliassime repeatedly seized early leads.
Auger-Aliassime broke in the opening game of the first, third and fifth sets, but Djokovic fought back to win each of those sets in tiebreaks. The Canadian levelled the match by taking the second set without facing a break point, then edged the fourth set in another breaker. Djokovic, however, capitalised on his rare break chance in the third set to take it 6-3 and held his nerve in the decider.
Djokovic won despite hitting only nine aces to Auger-Aliassime's 17, relying instead on a 74% first-serve rate and saving 3 of 4 break points. Crucially, he converted two of his four break opportunities, while Auger-Aliassime managed only one break from ten chances, wasting the early advantage he created in three separate sets.
