Atlante won a five-goal thriller 3-2 at Cruz Azul, helped by a quick-fire double that gave them control. Luis Puente struck on the stroke of half-time and Luis Calzadilla made it 2-0 early in the second half, and Atlante never surrendered that lead.
Nicolás Ibáñez reduced the deficit from Carlos Rodríguez's assist on the hour, but Jhojan Julio's unassisted strike in the 75th minute restored Atlante's two-goal cushion. Agustín Palavecino pulled one back for Cruz Azul in the 90th minute, but there was no time for an equaliser.
Cruz Azul had the better of the statistics, with 61% possession, 16 shots to 11 and a higher expected-goals figure of 2.72 to 1.89, yet Atlante were the more clinical side. Jhojan Julio both scored and set up a goal, while Atlante's goalkeeper made seven saves to keep the hosts at bay.
