Álex Berenguer opened the scoring in the 20th minute, converting Iñaki Williams's assist, and Robert Navarro doubled the lead two minutes later from Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta's pass. Celta had more of the ball but never managed to turn that possession into a goal.
Athletic were far the more dangerous side, racking up 17 shots to Celta's 8 and seven on target to two, with an expected-goals figure of 2.64 against 0.56. Celta enjoyed 54% possession, yet it was Athletic's superior chance creation that proved decisive.
