In the opener, Li broke for a 3-1 lead, only for Parry to hit back immediately. Li moved 4-2 ahead, but Parry broke in the ninth game to trail 4-5 and then took the tiebreak 7-6. The second set followed a similar pattern: Li broke in the first game, Parry levelled at 2-2 and then broke again to close out 6-4.
Parry's own first-serve percentage was just 43% and she hit only one ace, yet she kept finding a way to dent Li's delivery. The decisive moments were her breaks at 2-2 and 6-4 in the second set, which turned a tight contest in her favour.
