In the first set, Li broke for 4-2, but Cross hit back to make it 5-4 and force a tiebreak, which Li edged. The second set saw Li break in game one, lose the break immediately in game two, then strike again at 3-2 and finish with a break at 6-3.
Cross had more aces (3 to 1) and a higher first-serve percentage, but Li's return was decisive: she won 28 receiver points to 20 and took 52% of points on second-serve return. Li also saved two of four break points against her to close out the match in straight sets.
