Jessica Pegula defeated Amanda Anisimova 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 at the Cincinnati Open, prevailing in a deciding-set tiebreak after a match dominated by breaks of serve. The American twice took control of the third set, only to see Anisimova fight back, before closing it out on the tiebreak.
The first set alone featured breaks in nine of its ten games, with Pegula taking it 6-4 after breaking for the fifth time in the final game. Anisimova then raced through the second, breaking twice in the opening three games and again at 5-2 to level. In the decider, Pegula led 2-0 and 5-3, but Anisimova recovered to lead 6-5; Pegula broke straight back to force the tiebreak and sealed victory.
Pegula's decisive response came after a 13-point winning streak in the final set, a burst that stopped Anisimova's momentum. Although Anisimova hit 74% of first serves in that set to Pegula's 62%, Pegula won 70% of points behind her first delivery and held her nerve when it counted.
