SC Paderborn 07 won their DFB Pokal first-round tie 4-2 at 1. FC Phönix Lübeck. They took control early, with two goals before half-time, and were rarely troubled despite the hosts scoring twice.
Jano ter Horst opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with Mattes Hansen providing the assist. Santiago Castaneda doubled the lead in the 41st, only for Moritz Kretzer to pull one back for Phönix Lübeck two minutes later. Stefano Marino made it 3-1 in the 61st, Gabriel Vidović added a fourth in the 71st, and Tjark Lasse Scheller scored a late second for the hosts in the 75th.
Paderborn were the dominant side throughout, holding 64% possession, finishing with 24 shots to 15 and completing 461 passes to 209. Phönix Lübeck still managed eight shots on target, but Paderborn’s greater control and three big chances made the win a fair reflection of the game.
