1. FSV Mainz 05 cruised into the next round with a 9-0 demolition of VfB 1921 Krieschow in the DFB Pokal first round. The result was effectively settled inside the opening 43 minutes, as Mainz raced into a 5-0 lead before the interval. Krieschow were outclassed from start to finish.
Phillip Tietz opened the scoring from Phillipp Mwene's assist in the 19th minute, doubled the lead seven minutes later, and completed his hat-trick with a third in the 32nd minute. Nadiem Amiri made it 4-0 before Sheraldo Becker added a fifth on the stroke of half-time. Amiri scored again early in the second half, and further goals from Tietz, Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer and William Bøving rounded off the scoring.
Mainz dominated every department, holding 71% possession and registering 29 shots to Krieschow's 10, with 12 on target. They created seven big chances and scored six of them, while their only booking was a yellow card for Sheraldo Becker in the 24th minute. The final margin reflected a one-sided afternoon for the visitors.
