1. FC Köln came from behind to beat FC Würzburger Kickers 2-1 in the DFB Pokal first round. The visitors had to wait until after the hour mark to find a response after David Abrangao gave the hosts an early lead.
David Abrangao put Würzburger Kickers ahead in the 18th minute. Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson levelled for Köln in the 62nd minute, finishing after Ragnar Ache's assist, and struck again in the 77th minute from Linton Maina's pass. Ache was booked in the 58th minute and Abrangao in the 89th.
Jóhannesson's two goals were the difference as Köln controlled much of the play, holding 65% possession and completing 501 accurate passes to Würzburg's 229. Köln also had 14 total shots and six on target, while the hosts managed 10 shots and two on target, meaning Jóhannesson's match-winning brace carried the visitors through.
